. republican presidential nominee mitt romney has opened a new attack on president obama's foreign-policy just over a week before the to hold their first debate. romney criticized obama for referring to the latest middle east unrest as bonds and the road. he also vowed a foreign policy that he said would ship middle east politics, not just react to it. >> bombs in the road? we had an ambassador assassinated, a muslim brotherhood elect a member elected to the presidency of egypt. 20,000 people have been killed in syria. we of tumult in pakistan. iran is that much closer to having the capacity to build a nuclear weapon. this is time for a president who will shape events in the middle east, not just be merciful or be at mercy of the events in the middle east. i will get america on track at the kind of leadership we need so we can shape the future of this part of the world and keep america strong. >> romney was referring to obama's comments in an interview with "60 minutes." obama made what could be his most public rejection of the israeli government to date in that same interview. asked about unr

be promoting sustainable development that will provide long-term help for poor countries. governor romney sounded similar themes that former president bill clinton. he urged a re-examination of temporary foreign aid. >> we can employ people for a time, but can't sustain the economy for a long term. it can't pull the whole cart, because at some point the money runs out. an assistance program that helps unleash free enterprise can create enduring prosperity. >> the calls at the u.n. for outlawing offensive speech produces strong defenses of such speech not only by president obama but also from leaders in the american muslim community. i want to explore that with kim lawton managing editor of the program and the director of the muslim office of the public affairs council. welcome to you both. >> thank you. >> how are you american muslims trying it to persuade other muslims around the world that putting any kind of limit on free speech is dangerous? >> well, i think the first way we're trying to convince fellow m muslims of this is the fact that the idea of free speech is a foundational part

romney each spent wednesday campaigning in the battleground state of ohio, a key prize in the battle to win the november election. both candidates appealed to voters by attacking the other's record on china, with romney saying he will stop the country from taking u.s. jobs. >> one of the nations that has cheated over the years has been china. they have artificially held down the value of their currency. by doing that, the prices of their products are artificially low. when the prices are low and compete with our manufacturers, our guys go out of business and lose jobs. one thing i will do from day one is labelled china a currency manipulator. they must not steal jobs in unfair ways. >> romley's comments come days after his tax returns showed his trust has invested in a chinese will company doing business with iran. president obama criticized his comments on china. >> he said he is going to take the fight to the chinese. he will go after these cheaters. i have got to admit, that message is better than what he has actually done. it sounds better than talking about all the years he spen

. and let me explain why. i think the president's going to win but let's assume governor romney won. if he wins, that almost certainly means the republicans will hold on to the house and it will be about 50/50 in the senate, more or less the way it is now. you can't filibuster a budget. it's the only thing that doesn't require 60 votes in the senate to pass o as opposed to 51. so a lot of the policymaking will be pushed into the budget and he'll just have to pick up one or two people on that. if you assume that he is going to do what he said he's going to do, i think a lot of his priorities will be enacted. and i think it will be bad on the budget side, as i said. including for medicare t will drive the medicare trust fund out-- dry up the money by 2016. if what i think is going to happen happens and president obama wins, i think that too will break the logjam for a different reason. as senator mcconnell says their number one goal for the last four years has been denying him a second term. as soon as he gets that, they can't deny him a third term. he can't have one anyway. so i think you w
